Nestled along the shores of Great Sodus Bay, Sodus Point RV Park sits on a waterfront property with deep ties to the history, industry, and evolution of Sodus Point.

Long before RVs lined the waterfront and recreational boaters filled the bay, this area played an important role in the economic growth of New York State and the Great Lakes region. During the late 1800s and much of the 20th century, Sodus Point served as a major shipping hub for coal arriving by rail and departing by lake freighter. The massive Sodus Point Coal Trestle extended into the harbor, allowing railcars to unload directly into ships bound for ports throughout the Great Lakes.

Millions of tons of coal passed through the facility, helping fuel factories, railroads, homes, and communities across the Northeast and Midwest. At its peak, the coal trestle was one of the defining features of the Sodus Point waterfront and an important part of the region’s industrial history.

The legacy of that era remains visible today.

The fixed south dock at the neighboring marina is built upon infrastructure associated with the former coal trestle, preserving a physical connection between the property’s industrial past and its modern waterfront use. What was once a working center of rail and lake commerce has gradually been transformed into a place for boating, camping, recreation, and outdoor hospitality.

Today, Sodus Point RV Park gives visitors an opportunity to experience this historic waterfront setting in an entirely different way.
